Cashmere for a Cause: Q&A with Susan White Morrissey
White and Warren is Going Red
We sat down with White + Warren founder Susan White Morrissey to discuss why she’s so committed to raising awareness for American Heart Month and Go Red for Women. Read on for her insights and valuable tips on heart health, along with how you can join us in raising money for this important cause.
Q: What is your personal connection to Go Red For Women?
A: Everything about the heart is very personal for me. My husband Kevin passed suddenly. I’ve chosen to take a stand, both in his memory and for my family. I am incredibly proud to be on the NYC Go Red For Women Executive Leadership Team, raising awareness and funds for the American Heart Association.
Q: How is White + Warren supporting American Heart Month this year?
A: We’ve created a capsule collection of cashmere styles we know our customers love with special touches like embroidery and 20% of the net proceeds are donated to Go Red For Women.
Q: As someone who’s actively involved in the cause, what is the most surprising thing women don’t know about heart health?
A: Heart disease and stroke continue to be the #1 killers of Americans year after year—every 80 seconds a woman dies of heart disease or stroke. 80% of these heart disease-related deaths are preventable with awareness and lifestyle changes. The American Heart Association has put together a checklist called Life’s Simple 7 that can help you implement immediate and easy changes to improve your heart health.
Q: How can people get involved in Heart Health Month?
A: Friday, February 1 is National Wear Red Day. Everyone across the country is invited to wear red to bring awareness to cardiovascular disease and saving lives. The more we can involve our communities, the more we can spread vital information.
Q: Where should we go to find out more?
A: The American Heart Association is a wonderful resource, where you can learn about key initiatives like Know Your Numbers and Go Red Get Fit.
